Intelligent Optical Systems (IOS) and the Institute for Future Technology (IFTECH) to Outline Positive Solutions for Protecting Critical City Infrastructure with Latest Technology
LOS ANGELES -- Intelligent Optical Systems (IOS), a leading Los Angeles-based technology company, has entered into a joint agreement with the Institute for Future Technology (IFTECH), a non-profit think tank in Tokyo, to explore technology that protects the U.S. and Japan from chemical and biological threats. The partnership was signed last week and witnessed by Los Angeles MayorAntonio Villaraigosa during hisEast Asia trip.

IFTECH and IOS, which develops optical sensing and analytical instrumentation, will work together to examine technology options that can protect against the release of hazardous materials in or near specific buildings, transportation lines and other critical city infrastructure.
The organizations will explore the use of IOS's DICAST([R]) system. DICAST([R]) is a fiber optic-sensing technology that overcomes the limitations of older technologies which rely on point-to-point electronic sensors or laser detection that requires a clear line of sight. The DICAST([R]) system was developed primarily under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Defense and has had significant Congressional funding. The system is currently configured to analyze ambient air and detect the presence of multiple toxic gases.
